Bessy Reyna receives Award

CENTER FOR THE BOOK
August 20, 2009

Please join us in the light-filled atrium of Hartford Public Library for our eighth annual Connecticut Book Awards on Sunday, 20 September. Our Awards recognize and honor those authors, illustrators, and book designers whose works validate Connecticut ’s reputation as a major hub of literary creativity. We will present the 2009 Award for Lifetime Achievement in Service to the Literary Community to Bessy Reyna during this ceremony. The program will begin at 2:00 p.m. and be followed by a reception and book signings with all finalists until 5:30. Parking will be available on our Arch Street ramp; on-street parking is free on weekends.

Our special guest this year (apart from the stellar finalists whose names will soon be posted at www.hplct.org/cfb.htm) will be Tomie dePaola, creator of so many of America ’s best-loved children’s books; his 26 Fairmount Avenue series chronicles his rites of passage, growing up in Meriden.

While the awards program will be free and open to the public, tickets for the reception and book signings are $45 per person; all contributions, excluding $30 per person for food and beverages, are tax-deductible. If you wish to pay in advance, please send a check payable to Connecticut Center for the Book.

Our deadline for reservations is 14 September. If you cannot join us this year, please consider sending a tax-deductible donation to support the Connecticut Center for the Book at Hartford Public Library so that, together, we can nurture and preserve the literary excellence for which Connecticut is known.
