Panama International Book Fair 2010


The VI International Book Fair of Panama (IDF) 2010 will pay tribute to the late Uruguayan writer Mario Benedetti. This time the Guest Country is Uruguay. The chairman of the organizing group and the Panamanian Chamber of the Book (CPL), Briseida Bloise, told Efe that the fair will also offer "a full presentation with samples of film, painting, theater, literature and photographs" of Uruguay.

The Eastern Republic of Uruguay is bearer of a rich literary legacy, represented in authors such as Mario Benedetti, Juan Carlos Onetti, Idea Vilariño, Alfredo Zitarrosa, Eduardo Galeano, Juana de Ibarbourou, Vicente Basso Maglio, Felisberto Hernández, Jorge Meretta, among many others.

Uruguayan writers such as Tomás de Mattos Hernández, Rafael Courtoisie, Fernando Butazzoni, Ramón Cuadra, Margarita Miniauskas Beleskevich, Sylvia Puentes de Oyenard director of the Uruguay Academy of Children's Literature Uruguay, María Monserrat Di Lorenzi, Ivonne Mabel Parodi Scopise, Sylvia Suanes Miranda, Marina Jorge de Bellini, Luis Bellini, Ambar Labruna, Federico Correa Pose, will represent the Guest Country´s Literature.

The fair´s motto is "Reading is Ascending", which shows the way for the youth to go up.

It will be held from August 25 to 29, 2010.

Bloise noted that the nations of Israel, Mexico, France, United States, Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic and many others will be represented.

There will also be a representation of Panamanian authors such as Salvador Medina Barahona, Lili Mendoza, Gorka Lasa, Eduardo Verdurmen, Paola Schmitt, Carlos Wynter, among many others. All of them you will see at the INAC Stand.
